If you’re not sure where to start choosing your patio cushions then think first of all about the effect you are trying to achieve with your garden as a whole. Is your garden meant to be wild and like a jungle? Is the effect you are aiming for colonial plantation or English country cottage garden? Or is it a tropical rain forest out there?

All of these gardens need very different plants, furniture and patio cushions to create the effect you are looking for so look for a cushion which fits in with that theme.

If you don’t have a definite theme but just want “a nice garden” that might be where you are struggling as you have no real starting point. If that is the case choose an outdoor cushion you like and simply use it as a starting point. If the fabric contains three colors then see if you can match them up with painted flower pots or other accessories for example so that your garden looks coordinated even if it does not have a definite theme.

If you prefer a plain color, then choose two other colors which work well with your chosen shade and start gathering together plants and items for your garden that reflect your chosen color scheme.

In this respect choosing cushions for the garden is very like choosing cushions for a room in your home except you don’t have to coordinate with the walls and floor!
