I’ve found that adding more nautical things like ship’s bells,  nautical knots, ship’s wheels, helps balance the beach look out and adds warmth.  My favorite is adding nautical lanterns.  Most people do not realize that there are several types of ship lanterns out there that they can use.  For example you can add a port side or starboard lantern to you décor, one gives off a red light the other gives off a green light.  Then there are anchor and cargo lanterns, both giving off a soft white light. 

All four types of nautical lanterns have interesting stories and histories behind why they are used, which adds an extra talking point to your nautical décor.  Nautical lanterns where traditionally made of brass and were oil based.  Most people who own boats, still used these lights to this day.  The most used are the port and starboard lights and the anchor lights of course they are no longer oil based.   There are a lot of antique lanterns to be had out there, just check out places like Ebay, craigslist and your local antique shop.  You can also get replica lanterns that can be used with electricity.  Amazon is a great place to look for the replicas along with online stores. 

Of course you don’t have to light the lanterns up to add the warmth to your room, the brass look and design of the lantern does that all on it’s own.
