A Better Life for That Old Futon Mattress

If you have ever slept on a futon that is over about 15 years old, then you have slept on something that you probably would not be too excited to tell others about. If it was just for a night at a friend’s, then no harm done. These types of futon couches are a great way to get some extra seating in a room that has just enough space for this sort of thing. Then, they can be folded out to provide you with a more proper mattress style of bed, rather than curling up on the couch with a bed sheet under you.
However, if you are looking to make a more modern and bold statement in your new home, then you should retire that old futon mattress and go with one of the more ‘modern’ styles. These could be considered modern because they have many of the same features that you would expect to find in a more conventional mattress; inner coil springs, latex foam, memory foam toppers, thicker mattresses, you name it. If it is available for a traditional bed, then you can probably find it in a futon bed as well.
So, then, why opt for futon mattresses at all? This is a fair question. One reason is because of style and another is because of price. The futon is still a much more affordable choice over a more conventionally produced mattress. For about one-third to one-half the price, you can get a brand new futon. Not only this, but you will get the same type of warranty as well. About the style, if your home has more of an Eastern-theme to it, then a futon is the perfect companion. An Asian futon mattress could be just the piece your room needs to complete that Zen or spa-like look you’ve been after.
Don’t worry, either, you can still get a nice frame that will give your bed a clean and minimalist appearance. You will not be stuck with that old metal tubular frame that the older futons came with. In fact, you can have a custom built wooden headboard or frame that will give your new futon more character than most other beds. All this and you will still probably spend less. You can use the savings to buy some luxurious sheets or Asian bedding to complete your new futon look!
