Interior Design Ideas Using Handmade Jewelry

handmade jewelryWe all know that handmade jewelry is the popular craft of artisans, beading professionals, and jewelry designers. But how many of us have walked into a new home or old home and found handmade jewelry on the walls or hanging on the fireplace mantel? If you answered no to that question then it’s because you are not looking hard enough. I am not saying that all homes or even a majority of homes decorate with handmade jewelry, but it is a great idea if you have a house with a bit of character.

For example, let’s take a picture on the wall of the dining room. How cool would it be to make a handmade jewelry necklace with vibrant colored stones and gems? I think that sounds like a great project for the whole family. But how does that relate to decorating the house? For starters, if you take that necklace (or necklaces) and put it behind glass with a wood or metal border picture frame, you will have yourself a really nice wall mounting that has a great deal more sentimental value then a water-color painting you find at a consignment store. You would have a handmade jewelry necklace with a story behind it. And every time someone walks into the dining room you can tell them that you and your wife or you and your kids did a cool project to decorate the house with handmade jewelry.

But there are so many other ways to incorporate handmade jewelry with the interior design of the house. One short example has to do with window curtains. You can actually line the footer of the curtains with stones or beads and sew the pattern to the curtain. It provides a stellar look of rustic antique style blended with eccentric retro living. So if you are looking to add some original flavor to your home, think about handmade jewelry as an interior design tool.
