Simple Tips on Caring for Your Patio Floor Cushions

Patio floor cushions are a very unique and practical solution for expanding your outdoor seating possibilities. It is lovely to stretch out on pillows on a sunny day and enjoy the beautiful weather. However, any floor cushions tend to get dirty quite quickly and need fairly regular laundering. Here are some tips on how you can better care for your cushions so that they will last long and look great.

When selecting your new patio cushions, pay particular attention to the material they are made from. If it is easy for you to launder and dry the covers you will find that a real plus. Cushions left on the floor get soiled much more easily and more frequently than regular throw pillows, so be prepared to launder them fairly often. Thus, if they are easy to take off and put back on, and if they do not need a lot of special care, that is best.

Patterned material shows the dirt less than single-colored material, especially if the color of the patterned material is not too light. Patio cushions should not be made from material that is too dark either, as that is almost as bad when it comes to picking up lint and dust as the lighter colored material is. Browns, creams and earth colors are sometimes the best for these cushions. Floral or circular patterns also seem to show less dirt than plain, angular patterns.

Patio pillows are likely to fade from sunlight, and from frequent laundering. This cannot really be avoided all together. However, stacking your cushions out of reach of the sun when you are not using them helps prevent uneven fading from sunlight. Also, launder your cushion covers at the same time, even if they are not all equally soiled. You will still find that the cushion covers fade, but it will be much more uniform and less noticeable.
