In winter, the need for blankets to keep people warm arises. And the need for quality wool equally mounts too. And of the many wool yarns, the merino wool is considered the finest and the most luxurious. It is made of fiber that is just a fraction of a diameter. It is this aspect that makes it a high-grade wool and far different from the traditional wool. It does not cause itching and harsh reactions to the skin. Since it feels soft against the skin, it is just like a soft fabric that works the wonder of a blanket in keeping you warm.
New Zealand is the home of good quality wools and of products made of them such as sweaters, rugs, seat covers and many more. The finest quality of wool is also produced from the country. These are sheep wools hailing exclusively from New Zealand.
This type of wool frees unwanted humidity so that blankets, sweaters or any other material made from them maintains coolness during the summer and keeps the warmth in winter. Its breathable character maintains just the right temperature making the body comfortable on any type of weather. Blankets made of this wool are in fact made for all seasons.
Another advantage of a merino wool blanket as opposed to any regular bedding is that it stays bouncy no matter how you sit and lie on them. And since it does not keep moisture in the material, the possibility of mites lurking on it is deterred. It is also resistant to molds, odors and mildews.
The fineness of the wool is amazingly easy to maintain too. Because it does not need constant washing for it repels mites, odors and etc. It will prettily stand the wear and tear through time if it properly washed and handled. Some pointers that one has to keep in mind are:
1. It should be hand washed or machine washed in delicate cycle.
2. Use cold water.
3. Dry it flat or upon a line.
4. Do not put in the dryer.
5. Do not use toxic chemicals or strong detergents. A mild soap will do.
Owning a merino wool blanket cannot be said as a luxury. Even though the genuine blankets of this kind are relatively pricey, considering the benefits one can derive from it, it is more of a necessity. It is one of the wonders of organic engineering.
