When it comes to adding style and function to the outside of your home, one often overlooked area is outdoor lighting. There are a few different categories of outdoor lighting, with the main two being landscape lighting and lighting that mounts to the walls of your home. The typical locations for outdoor sconces are at the entry to the home and in the back entertaining area of the home. Depending on the size of the home you may need one or several sconces to effectively light the area. And when it comes to which version of outdoor sconce lighting you are going to choose, you will obviously want it to go with the surroundings in terms of style. If you have ever been inside a lighting store you already know that there is an almost unlimited variety of fixtures from which to choose.

If you have an outdoor bar or outdoor kitchen area, mounting a couple of fixtures nearby will enhance both the entertaining ability of the space as well as your ability to host, whether that means cooking or tending bar. An outdoor space that is no adequately lit tends to be a space that empties when the sun gets low. Keep the party going with a well lit space. Obviously you don’t want to over light the space and make it too bright. It is easy to experiment with light levels once you have chosen the outdoor sconces you like. Just get a couple of different wattage bulbs and experiment a little until you find the right light level for the space.

Keep in mind that one space might need more light than others. For example, your front entry way needs to be well lit for both you and your guests. You can also change the light level with the same style sconce in a different size. A larger version for the front entry way, and perhaps a smaller version of the same style for your entertaining space. Again, there is so much variety available that there is no doubt you will find what you are looking for in terms of both looks and function.
