First Steps in Bathroom Renovations

When it is finally time for bathroom renovations, or to make some serious adjustments to the decor and fixtures, there are a few items which should take priority before anything is removed or torn down.

Design, Review, Re-Design

Know exactly what look is desired. This is no idle comment, ‘the look’ being created in the bathroom space determines durability of products such as bath and sink faucets, location and extent of new plumbing, and of course, how much the renovation is going to cost.

Start with basics:

-Develop a scrap book of designs and photos. Put together the first choice and second choice lists for the new bathroom. This will be the equivalent of a sketch on paper.

-Before entering the showroom and looking through all the beautiful bath hardware available, measure. This is particularly true for bath tub replacement, but equally important is to measure vanities and floor space. Also, measure towel bars and sink widths. Write it all down and bring it on the shopping trips.

Shop, Revise

-Shop the products from those lists. It is best to find a knowledgeable sales associate or kitchen and bath specialist to help find quality products fitting into the style and overall color scheme of the dream bathroom.

-Assuming this is a complete remodel of the bathroom, be sure to understand how the bath tub fits the body of the people who will be using it. For the shower, be sure a shower head with enough pressure is installed. Understand what is involved if the shower system on the wish list needs more water than currently installed water pipes can provide.

Understanding the details involved with a complete bathroom remodel will help alleviate stress during the process. Go into the project with a laid out plan and it will make the whole bathroom renovation experience and enjoyable one. In the end, it also means the new space is finished just as planned.
