Baby Armoires Buying Tips

Baby armoires are excellent organizational and decorative furnishings to include in the design of your baby’s nursery.  When shopping for the right baby armoire to suit your needs, and decor tastes, be sure to consider the following:

Durability – How long do you want your baby armoire to last? If it’s just a temporary storage piece for baby’s first year, then purchasing a baby armoire created with a wood veneer or other less expensive material that won’t necessarily last forever is a wise investment. If you’re planning an elaborate mural or storybook scene hand painted onto your baby’s armoire, then by all means, please protect your investment by purchasing a solid wood armoire of either mahogany, walnut, pine or oak. Solid wood baby armoires, when properly cared for, will last through many years and even through many generations. Of course, solid wood styles will increase the budget however, chances are they’ll become family heirlooms that can not only grow along with baby right up to teenaged years but will also take them through college, marriage and parenthood as well!

Features – If you’re not using your baby armoire to hang clothes, you may consider framed glass doors on the top portion along with shelving for displaying fun and attractive baby items such as statues, stuffed animals and other decorative pieces. If you will be using the baby armoire for hanging baby clothes, look for models that include a clothes rod or install one yourself with either a shower or curtain tension rod and solid doors so that the clothes can’t be seen – unless you want them seen. Baby clothes are so adorable, they’re actually fun to look at! Drawers or doors on the bottom can hold various items but remember, keep it safe. If you don’t want your growing child to get into those items, either put on child safety latches or keep unsafe items out of the bottom drawers! Wall mounting is another important feature of tall furniture being placed in baby nurseries. stork craft baby armoireBaby armoires should be mounted to the wall to prevent tipping because growing children love to use furniture to pull themselves up from a crawling or seated position.

Size – Baby armoires are available in various sizes and some are much taller than others while some are quite deeper. The size you choose matters only on the space in the nursery and getting it through the door! Again, remember to check into mounting hardware when purchasing the baby armoire. Ask the furniture retailer if it’s included or if not, what type of hardware they suggest purchasing. If that information is not readily available, go to your local hardware or building supply store and ask an expert who can guide you through the process. While it may seem like an unnecessary step, remember that babies grow so quickly that we often find ourselves wondering where the time went. Waiting too long to mount the baby armoire to the wall just may prove to be something you’ll regret in the months to come.
